Laying Down the Story

Using audio material from oral histories and podcasting episodes that I have created through the years, we will investigate the theory behind oral history collection, training, and best practices, and how these can dovetail into podcasting and radio.

Kara Westerman is a published fiction author, teacher, podcaster, oral history facilitator, and fearless leader of the weekly writing groups Writer's Collective of East Hampton and the Windmill Writers at Southampton Library

She received her BFA in Theater at NYU, her MFA in creative writing from Sarah Lawrence College, and the Edward Albee Foundation fiction residency fellowship. Kara is also a two-time alum of The Oral History School in Hudson, NY. Her short fiction has appeared in The New Ohio Review, the anthology, Submerged: Tales From the Basin, and The East Hampton Star.

Kara is currently a features writer for the newspaper The East End Beacon, and she creates the podcast, Phantom Hampton: Stories from Where the Rest of Us Live in conjunction with her new LTV show of the same name.
