Eat Less Meat, For You and the Planet
Isn’t it great when big problems have simple solutions, especially in today’s complex world? As it turns out, a major solution to America’s number one killer—heart disease—and to world hunger are the same: eat less meat. Americans eat far more animal protein than the federal government recommends, and livestock gobbles up too much of the world’s food. A third of the world’s crops go to feeding, not people, but livestock. While we fatten our cattle, pigs and chickens, almost a billion people go to bed hungry every night. If Americans—and all the world’s people—ate a healthy diet with modest portions of meat, we would go far to solving the world’s hunger problem and help us live longer, healthier lives.
